Laser 6519 Valve Shim Tool

The Suzuki GS500 requires the valve buckets to be depressed so that you can replace the shim as required. The Haynes manual shows you how to improvise a suitable tool. I followed their instructions, but it was a bit of a faff and it didn't work terribly well. Now I own the special tool (or rather Laser's version of it). Buckets now depress with ease. However, it may not be the end of your troubles. I find the oil in the buckets provides enough suction to make those shims a bit of a git to remove. After much frustration, I now use a tiny, flat blade jeweller's screwdriver to flick them up and a cheap magnetic tool to extract them. Life's a little easier with the correct tools, although not as easy as screw and locknut valve adjustment.
Laser tools are available from many outlets. The cheapest I could find was on
EBAY, expect to pay around the £12 mark.
