Lidl Magnetic Tool Rail

Magnetic Tool Holder

Today I successfully managed to avoid all the sweet treats that Lidl’s bakery tempts me with, and usually I can talk myself out of any purchase from the middle isles, but this week, I was tempted into a purchase. I hope it’s going to be a real time saver and improve my working efficiency no end.

What is this miraculous gadget? It is… a magnetic tool rail.

I don’t really need more tool storage, but what I do need to do is stop wasting time looking for a spanner that I know I had in my hand a few minutes ago. (I think it’s an age thing!) So the idea is this; put magnetic tool rail near the bike that I’m working on and then make a conscious effort to stick tools/bolts/fasteners onto tool rail instead of leaving on floor. Thus I should always be able to find stuff again instantly without the frustrating time wasting caused by my own forgetfulness.

Well that’s the theory…How does the tool rail actually perform?

Despite sticking itself quite firmly to the metal surfaces of Lidl’s checkout, which caused me some amusement and significantly slowed down the speed with which my shopping was whizzing over the scanner towards me, I’d actually like the magnet to be a bit stronger. It’s fine with screwdrivers, spanners, my keys etc. Struggles with the 1/2” drive ratchet. With a big socket on, it’ll hold it, just…
Time will tell if it also actually helps with the memory issue…
